Proving that not everyone should write all types of books. This is the most boring written book ever. pass it by

Really tried to read this book. Just could not care about the people at all.

Lots of characters to keep track of, but once I got into it I could track them. I found it interesting how she told the teens' stories parallel to the adults' stories and how they intertwined.

Known for her Harry Potter Series, this is J.K. Rowling’s first adult fiction novel. Readers should be aware that there is no magic to be found here. Subjects delved into include poverty, drugs, and broken families. This book has the…

If you've read any of Rowling's other books (The Harry Potter series) the first 20 pages of The Casual Vacancy is like shell-shock. I felt betrayed and harshly pulled back to reality by the language, blatant sex, domestic abuse, and rape.…

Couldn't find a single main character that I cared about. All totally unlikable except for a few peripheral characters.

Enter a small town in a which a member of the council dies and an uproar begins over who will take the empty seat. It was very interesting to figure out how everyone was connected and get glimpses into each of the runner's lives, as well…

Loved it! Rowling can write! I read that this was turned into a mini-series in the UK. Enjoy!

Remember when Britney Spears/Christina Aguilera/ Miley Cyrus etc tried to rebrand themselves from the teeny-bopper to something more "sophisticated" by becoming excessively sexual and vulgar?? Same thing here, plus the characters embody…

I just couldn't get into it at all (and no, I've never read Potter before). Just too much gossip and wondering, and circular happenings and I will admit I didn't have the patience for it.

A richly detailed look at the politics and more of English country life. A satisfying read

If you enjoy reading stories about scheming, backstabbing, hateful, violent, depressing, and morally bankrupt characters with no redeeming qualities and a very unhappy and dissatisfying ending, this book is for you. If you hated the Harry…

If you like reading the "f-bomb" repeatedly, then this is the book for you. I didn't care for it at all, but it could be because it was as far away from Harry Potter as you can get!

When Barry Fairbrother suddenly dies in his forties, the idyllic town of Pagford is left in total shock. Pagford is, seemingly, peaceful English town, with cobbled streets, a market square and a abandoned abbey, but beneath all the peace…

What an out and out disappointment. There was not one character in this book with whom one could become engaged and the whole plot was forced. Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing was humourous, Rowling's attempt to blow a minor event into…

Haven't read this book yet, but I loved the Harry Potter series so much, I had to look for more books, by this brilliant author.

It was hard keeping track of all the characters, but otherwise very well written and easy to stay engaged with. I really enjoyed it!

Many unlovable (but believable) characters behaving badly...the dark (but fascinating) dark side of life in a small English town. HBO series starts April 29 2015.

I don't usually stop reading a book part way through, but in this case I couldn't drag myself on. The novel is divided into two sort of themes. On the one hand, it is about teens in a small town and their sex-lives, which I am not the…

I did not expect this book to be anything like the Harry Potter series, so was not disappointed. I did enjoy the writing but it was a bit hard keeping track of all the many characters, especially as I was not able to binge read. The…

I forced myself to read to around page 150. It had not improved by then, so I gave up. I have enjoyed the Comoran Striker books written under her nome de plume but this was depressing, vulgar and uninteresting. There were also too many…

Reading this book was a waste of my time. J.K. Rowling should stick to children's books like Harry Potter. Those were worth reading and the movies were good. I don't think I will read her new novel under her other name.

While this book tested J.K Rowling's raunchy unfiltered side of writing I enjoyed the novel. The book starts off centering around Barry Fairbrother, who is a member of a parish council in Pagford, England. Barry ends up dying, and…

she should have kept to children's fantasy.

I was ready to toss this aside after 50 pages but I lumbered through to the end. When an author uses words like pusillanimous to describe a love style, you just know she's grasping at straws. I have rarely read a book where everyone…
