Excellent joining of historical fact and fiction. The author combines both in a manner that draws the reader into the story. Difficult to put the book down once started.

Fascinating book. Well written and as comprehensive overview as could be expected in a single book. Is a great starting point for more readings in individual tribes and issues. Well worth reading.

The author states, "There is nothing original in this book". He then goes on to prove that. However, he presents in a very trivial way with little depth.

This is a diary, written by a boy, and as a diary, is beyond literary critique. The diary entries discuss mainly weather and other mundane activities. There are sections in which life under the nazis is shown. The significance of the book is that the reader knows in advance that Petr and many of those named are destined to die in nazi concentration camps. Based on his writings and other artistic and scientific endeavors, the real thought after reading is wondering what he would have accomplished if given the opportunity. This is a diary, written by a boy, and as a diary, is beyond literary critique. The author states this is not meant to be an academic work and that is evident in the body of the work. It is an insightful read however. The chapter "A day at the games" is fascinating. The primary criticism is the author repeats certain concepts excessively. The author states this is not meant to be an academic work and that is evident in the body of the work.
