This book focuses on social activism and injustice in terms of publishing diverse books, with the focus on African American women and girls. When Marley's mother asks her if she could change something in the new year ahead, Marley comes up with #1000blackgirlbooks. Marley found that her reading list at school comprised of only white boys and their dogs...." Where the Red Fern Grows," and "Old Yeller." Marley wanted to see images and protaganists with her face and culture. She sets out to collect 1000 books with black women and girls as the main characters. She does this and more...find out how successful her activism is and use her "toolbox" of resources to start your own crusade! In the back of the book she lists 500 books for middle school and young adults. This is a great resource to use!
