I enjoyed the story and the idea behind this book, but it took me awhile to get into it. The book is almost 500 pages long, and I did not feel that it needed that many pages to achieve the story line. I kept reading at the beginning because although I wasn't in love with the story I was intrigued. The story line of Russ and his daughter is done very well. The book has you rooting for them the entire time. There were other twists and turns thrown in with his family and personal life throughout the book that kept the story moving along. Again, I think it could have achieved the same result in less pages, but overall I did enjoy this book. I agree with the other reviewers who said the second half of the book is better. Most novels by Spark immediately capture my attention and I can't put them down. However, I did not feel the same way about this book until I was about 250/300 pages into it.
