This book has affected me on such a deeply emotional level. At 25%, I had a notion as to the outcome, started panicking and quit reading for the night. The next morning, I read another 25 pages and, although immensely intrigued, I still felt the impending doom. I know that is a dramatic description, but I can't describe it any different. When I picked it up that night, I read to 66% and started sobbing. Except for a few moments of reprieve, I cried until I was finished and then some. My family didn't know what to think and I didn't dare tell them it was because of a book. :) I know that this will not be the experience for every reader, but I know how I wanted the story to play out and knew early on that it wouldn't. I have strong convictions and I know that they had a huge influence on my emotions. I have to keep reminding myself that this is just a book and the characters aren't real! Avid readers know how difficult that can be to discern in our minds. I hope that my ramblings do not make anyone think that I didn't care for this book. In fact, that can't be farther from the truth. If an author can reel me into a story with such overwhelmingly strong emotional connections, how can you not give a book 5 stars? Even if the book didn't play out like I longed for, I can't dismiss the quality of the writing and overall story. And don't worry, there is an happily-ever-after, just not the one this reader wanted. I can't fail to mention that in addition to gutting me emotionally, I laughed throughout it, as well. I fell deeply in love with the main characters and their often witty banter. It's not often that I care for a heroine in a book as much as I did Emma. I find that has been the case with Taylor Jenkins Reid's books. She writes about women I would love to be friends with and friendships between women that I almost envy. This really was an amazing story. If it weren't for feeling wrung out at the end, I would have to say it was the perfect book - original story, emotional pulls, strong characters, and comedy.
