[a Novel]

It was a 'cute' book, if one could use the word 'cute' for this type of subject matter. Was a fairly entertaining read for the first half, chock-full of creative scenarios with suspense drawing towards the middle of the book. Then it began to get a little confusing. Elements of mysticism, no doubt inherited from Joe Hill's father, Stephen King (for those of you who didn't know). All in all it was an enjoyable read. The ending left me wanting the book to be better wrapped up, but I will not spoil anything. This book does have sexual content. Some of it is graphic. However, I have read worse, so I would recommend this book for someone in their mid-teens looking for a pretty punk-y jaunt into the whole semi-horror genre. Joe Hill makes a lot of pop culture references that may go over the head of younger readers, but they are appreciated nonetheless (I am 24 and 'got' most of them anyway, so not all hope is lost there). The movie is similarly good. I would rate both a B- for trying, but falling short in a couple of aspects.
