An Inquiry into Love and Death is Simone St. James’ second book, and just like The Haunting of Maddy Clare the author delivers an atmospheric exploration into the supernatural. Combining the drama and setting reminiscent of Downton Abbey, readers are immersed into a well-written historical novel. What’s great about this novel is that St. James’ combines an intriguing mystery with a dash of romance. The atmospheric style of the novel in no way hampers the character driven nature of the novel, but rather evokes the melancholic feeling that many were sure to be feeling in the post-war era. So whether you’re a mystery, historical, or romance fan, this one is sure to appeal.
