As others have noted-- and it's also apparent if you've ever seen it in person--this book is a monster. Fittingly, cracking it open is like being thrown overboard into an ocean of small point text and an excess of archaic French naming conventions. I spent an entire summer reading it; sometimes I think about how many other standard novels I could have read instead, but I've never regretted it. There are some weaker side arcs throughout, but the saga of Edmond Dantes and his quest for love and revenge is so worth it if you can stick in there. It feels like binging a 10 season long TV show with a perfect ending.
