Lewis presents a situation where the young female adult learns she was adopted at birth into an Amish family which explains why she isn't quite Amish in her life goals, interests, and views. In typical Lewis fashion, this conflict seems to take forever to become evident and isn't resolved at the end of the movie either because, after 1 1 /2 hrs, we still don't know what happens to Kate after she sees her dying birth mom in New York. This story is part of a 3 book series so I guess it would make the movie too long to put all 3 books into 1 movie. Actors' Amish accents are hard to understand. Kate's brief scene at the lake with Daniel could have been edited out as who he was or why he is not still a part of Kate's teen life is not explained. Movie does capture aspects of Amish life...lack of modern facilities and vehicles, their big farms and families, religious values and disciplinary measures to keep the young in the Amish fold.
