Faith

a Novel
Sep 13, 2014SuzeParker rated this title 3 out of 5 stars
Though the core issue in Faith is a priest's alleged sexual abuse of a child, Haigh's novel concentrates more on how the uncertainty surrounding the allegation affects relationships. Told primarily by the accused priest's sister, the story slowly reveals secrets in the family's past and unfolds how each member of the family is challenged by - and deals with - the allegations. Also important to the story is how those who are both close to and distant from the priest's relationship with the boy might interpret it, and how it might be used to personal advantage. I didn't find Faith to be a riveting read, but it is a well-written and strong exploration of how we judge others, whether we know the truth about them or not.
