Reality Check by Jen Calonita is a fabulous book about four best friends that get catapulted into fame. Charlie, Brooke, Hallie, and Keiran, are four girls that just want to have fun, but one day when Charlie is working at the coffee shop in their small town she meets a producer. The producer wants to give Charlie and her three friends a reality television show about their lives as four small town girls. After thinking about it Charlie, Brooke, Hallie, and Keiran decide to sign the contract and become reality television stars. It starts out great; the girls have tons of fun and they get lots of attention from everyone, but when they start getting told to turn on each other in order to create more drama, Charlie starts to question if she should have signed the contract. Once the show premiers Brooke starts letting the fame get to her head and acts like she is better than the other girls. Brooke even brings in a new cast member to add a different dynamic to the show and she is rich, snobby, and a camera hog, whom none of the other girls like, or believe fits their small town image. The show starts to become something that none of the girls thought it would, and when Keiran gets abruptly written out Charlie knows she has to do something about it. When Charlie, Keiran, and Hallie talk to the network about how unhappy they are, the producers threaten them and tell them that they can’t leave the show because of the contract. In the end the girls figure out a way to fix everything, because friends don’t let friends do reality shows. Overall I loved this book and I would recommend it to many people.
