I enjoyed this book quite a lot -- as much as the first in the series, and 100x more than a recent stand-alone by Robotham, The Secrets She Keeps. I like the focus on a different character than in the first novel, but with The Suspect's (and series) main character here in a supporting role. The tension -- is this child alive or not?! I liked that Ruiz's ancestry is German/Gypsy, and his mother pretended to be Jewish to escape the Nazis. My friends who complain about getting confused when the time-line is not straightforward would not like this one -- the book starts near the end of the story, and the previous story is interwoven as Ruiz gradually regains memories. Ali was a lovely character, and the connection between Ruiz and Ali felt believable. I liked learning about the sewer systems and underground rivers. Highly recommended.
