This novel is about Scott's 1910-1912 expedition to the South Pole, which he reached shortly after Amundsen. It is told by the five men who went to the Pole, each with his own perspective. The book draws heavily on other accounts and adds little. It would be better to read Cherry-Garrard's wonderful classic, "Worst Journey in the World".
