"Doctors! Doctors are hot, right? OK, so how about a panel quiz show called 'What's my Disease?'" This 1965 film was billed as "The motion picture with something to offend everyone!" It's quaint, but I double a savvy filmgoer in 1965 would be even mildly irritated. Like a lot of satires, it doesn't go far enough. The talent involved in this movie should make for a better movie: it was based on a book by Evelyn Waugh, Christopher Isherwood adapted the book, Tony Richardson, another Brit, was coming off his hit "Tom Jones," and Haskell Wexler shot it. It's kind of an example of Hollywood gothic, aiming at Hollywood, California culture, and the funeral industry. The cast is great. If the lead guy (Robert Morse) looks familiar it's because he played Bert Cooper on "Mad Men." John Gielgud and Rod Steiger co-star; Jonathan Winters has double roles. It's an enjoyable movie, but it's not particularly funny or satiric.
