An Oral History of the Vietnam War
Sep 05, 2017peachmcd rated this title 5 out of 5 stars
Black soldiers need to be heard. Their varied experiences in Vietnam are important history. This book is very hard to read, but I wish everyone would read it anyway. True stories about fighting in wars are - and should be - hard to read. Those choosing reading material for young audiences need to know that these men comment on, participate in, and recoil from, wartime violence and the ancient wartime commonplaces of atrocity, rape, and and torture. There is no glory here - but there is courage, and loyalty, and repentance. There is selflessness amidst the horror. I dare everyone to read this and weep, and resolve to study war no more.
