Add a CommentThis nifty little book is so effective that while reading it, I was able to make some good habits and give up certain bad ones. The fundamental premise of the book, I would say, is that the secret of why Tiny Habits works so beautifully is that People change best by feeling good. B. J helps us feel good while we are changing and this provides an impetus to change some more. This is a book that would come in handy for an individual, couple - even a couple having relationship issues, a family, an organization, a society and so on. It is a tiny book which will make a huge impact on your life. Even the Appendices are useful. If you feel disinclined to read the appendix, not to worry because the website has a lot of the information.
A bit superfluous with examples and cheesiness in the normal self-help sense, but these examples were useful for driving home points behind actual behavioral science theory. This book is the first of its kind to give me hope that I can make improvements and successfully change habits. I will give it a try!
"Tiny is mighty." is the first line of the book and the author teaches the reader how to analyze their own behaviour through the principles of Behavioural Science in a logical and detailed scientific approach by breaking down the concept of "change" to manageable steps. The author writes in a way that you feel like he's talking to you in person from within his Behavior Design Lab. His teaching method is patient and gentle and down to earth. Learn how to analyze your own behaviour without guilt or pressure to find out if the change you want to make is meaningful to you or possible. It's a real pleasure to learn simple methods of thinking about what you're doing now and deciding whether a change is relevant and then applying ways to make that change or habit happen. Details matter and no detail is too "tiny" in this process. I enjoyed reading every page.
BJ Fogg a behavior design researcher applies the scientific method to change. This book can help you successfully do what you already want to do. Best book I have read on habits with clear explanations of both theory and practical applications.
Fogg's technique might work for some folks but for me, not so much...
B. J. Fogg recognizes that change is not an easy process for many of us-- either to create good habits or get rid of bad ones. He seems like a kind and understanding man.
Rather than expecting you to change your life overnight, the author gently takes you through the process of breaking a big habit into tiny habits. You then make one small change and reinforce it before moving onto the next step.
I've been using this method, and it is something "doable" for me. I've been able to sit at an uncluttered kitchen table for the first time in years! Next are the countertops....
Resolutions.
