"When New York journalist and recently bereaved mother Charlotte "Charlie" Cates begins to experience vivid dreams about children--visions of injured children, dead children--she's sure that she's lost her mind. Yet these are not the nightmares of a grieving parent, she soon realizes. They are messages and warnings that will help Charlie and the children she sees, if only she can make sense of them. After a little boy in a boat appears in Charlie's dreams asking for her help, Charlie finds herself entangled in a thirty-year-old missing-child case that has never ceased to haunt Louisiana's prestigious Deveau family. Armed with an invitation to Evangeline, the family's sprawling estate, Charlie heads south, where new friendships and an unlikely romance bring healing. But as she uncovers long-buried secrets of love, money, betrayal, and murder, the facts begin to implicate those she most wants to trust--and her visions reveal an evil closer than she could've imagined"-- Provided by publisher.

This was a great read. You think you know who did it, then you don't, then you do....It kept me interested until the end.

From the first pages I immediately had a feeling-oh, one more from "I see dead people".
But then, the reading was more and more fascinating. Not only because of the plot, but also because I think that the author is intelligent, observant, able to philosophize-asking eternal question, for example, - why do good people have to suffer?
And in the end-she kind of spoiled "five star" rating by describing on several pages explanatory dialogs. It was not necessary. Readers are not fool and can understand everything without this boring bla-bla-bla.

Either I didn't read this at all or I've completely forgotten everything about it. Unfortunately, my very long list of books i want to read means that I often request books with no idea where I the book was recommended or why I wanted to read it. Maybe I'll re-request it sometime.

I found this to be an entertaining mix of mystery, romance and a little paranormal activity. I liked Charlie and will most likely read future books in this series.

I find it difficult to find books that capture my interest - much less one that I couldn't put down, but this is one!
Hester Young's main character Charlotte is a grieving mother who receives a "gift" that thrusts her into situations that stab at her still raw wounds. She is compelled to continue on a path which ultimately brings her to a place of peace. If you love the paranormal, love, and rich history then this book is for you.
