The premise for this book is solid, but the book does not actually explain things in a way small children can understand.

#IndyPLKids Antiracist Baby by Ibram X Kendi and illustrated by Ashley Lukashevsky breaks down easy ways parents can teach their children to be antiracist.

"8 Grow to be an antiracist. Antiracist Baby is always learning, changing, and growing. Antiracist Baby stays curious about all people and isn't all-knowing." This idea can be applied to adults, too. We must continue to learn, from the learning we change, and by changing we grow. Showing children that we, too, are active players in breaking down racism will help them with real-life examples.

This feels like more of a picture book for adults and caregivers who need guidance for 1) being antiracist and 2) having the language to raise antiracist children in a racist society.

Best book, worst year. If anything positive comes out of 2020, it is due to books like this one.

A poetic list of things parents can do to help raise an "antiracist" baby who will respect people of all colors and be able to identify injustice where they see it. While certainly an adult conceit title, its advice is solid and worth sharing with the next generation.

"Open your eyes to all skin colors. Antiracist Baby learns all the colors, not because race is true. If you claim to be color-blind, you deny what's right in front of you."
