"Two rival dating app creators find themselves at odds in the boardroom but in sync in the bedroom. Rhiannon Hunter may have revolutionized romance in the digital world, but in real life she only swipes right on her career-and the occasional hookup. The cynical dating app creator controls her love life with a few key rules: - Nude pics are by invitation only - If someone stands you up, block them with extreme prejudice - Protect your heart. Only there aren't any rules to govern her attraction to her newest match, former pro-football player Samson Lima. The sexy and seemingly sweet hunk woos her one magical night... and disappears. Rhi thought she'd buried her hurt over Samson ghosting her, until he suddenly surfaces months later, still big, still beautiful-and in league with a business rival. He says he won't fumble their second chance, but she's wary. A temporary physical partnership is one thing, but a merger of hearts? Surely that's too high a risk..."--Publisher.

This is a contemporary romance book with diverse characters. Rhiannon meets up with an ex-football player and thinks things are going well but there is a misunderstanding and she gets her feelings hurt but won’t let him explain what happened. He shows up months later as a rival in the dating app business and their paths keep crossing. There is a lot of girl power in this book and emotional moments when the characters are learning things about themselves and how to maneuver in the dating world trying not to get hurt and find love. It’s a good candid look at modern digital dating. A very easy read.

Sorry...slow. This one is a miss.

I enjoyed this rom com very much. This is the first novel by Alisha Rai that I have read and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed a story that had a very techy premise. I enjoyed how multilayered the characters are, the real world issues that the author tackled, and the second chance romance aspect of the story. While I wouldn't place it on my very favorite books I've ever read shelf, I didn't feel that it was a waste of my time to read it. I am looking forward to reading this author's next installment of this series and learning about more about some of the minor characters in this story.

The Right Swipe is...fine. It's a pretty predictable and straightforward romance, but nothing about it felt new or compelling to me. I appreciate that the protagonist is an independent and successful woman in her own right, and I also appreciate that the author addresses some difficult topics, but none of it is very interesting.

I have recently fallen for contemporary rom-com, but am still picky about what grabs me. I loved that BOTH characters were people of colour AND that they weren't from the same "culture". Many times when there is a hero and heroine of colour their love interest is white or the same race/culture/religion. The chemistry between both characters was HOT and cute. While this novel takes on dating apps and new ways of dating, this romance novel is also very predictable - not in a bad way. I also liked that The Right Swipe took on some serious issues so was not just a light fluffy romance. Rai wants strong female leads with a supporting strong female cast, and actually balances that well with the humour and seriousness. Rhiannon is not just a cute fun heroine. I am looking forward to the second book in the series and hope we get to visit with Sam and Rhiannon again.

Another hit from one of my favorite authors. I love how she combines swoony romance with real-world issues and meaningfully diverse characters. In this one, issues of #MeToo and football-related CTE are involved, with the same development and resolution as the emotional arcs of the characters. Fans of her Forbidden Hearts series will enjoy the cameo appearances of previous characters, though they are not essential to enjoying this story, which stands on its own, making it a great entry point for new readers.

This book was refreshing and fun! It's not a "fluffy" romance, this book is filled with SMART characters who are professional and intelligent. The "steamy" scenes aren't smutty, and the characters even enjoyed being together just as much as sex. This author - and this series - is definitely something to keep on my radar. Highly recommended!

Review excerpt: "Alisha Rai is beloved here in the Pink Palace, so I approached The Right Swipe with some apprehension and excitement. What if I didn’t love it? Would my new friends kick me out of this very cool book club? I’m not always a fan of contemporaries, and am not particularly drawn to stories where the hero is an athlete, so I worried that this might not be the right introduction to Alisha Rai. Thankfully, I could not put The Right Swipe down and stayed up entirely too late to finish it in one go. It was as delightful as I hoped and far more timely and poignant than I had expected."

High-powered dating app owner and CEO Rhiannon encounters a guy who ghosted her three months the face of the newest marketing campaign of a competitor. They set the past aside to work together on a marketing campaign, and it turns out that Samson had a good reason for disappearing. Can they work past Rhi's trust issues to have something beyond a fling?

This super fun romance gender swaps the popular trope of the wealthy businessman with no time for love, and also touches on issues of sexual harassment, gender discrimination in tech, affirmative consent, and CTE (Samson is a former pro football player who left the game to protest the way concussions were treated), all without being too heavy-handed or preachy. A must read for contemporary romance readers who don't mind their reads a little steamy, especially fans of Jasmine Guillory and Alexa Martin.
