With wry wit and hard-earned wisdom, popular online personality and founder of TheChicSite.com founder Rachel Hollis helps readers break free from the lies keeping them from the joy-filled and exuberant life they are meant to have. Founder of the lifestyle website TheChicSite.com and CEO of her own media company, Chic Media, Rachel Hollis has created an online fan base of hundreds of thousands of fans by sharing tips for living a better life while fearlessly revealing the messiness of her own. Now comes her highly anticipated first book featuring her signature combination of honesty, humor, and direct, no-nonsense advice. Each chapter of Girl, Wash Your Face begins with a specific lie Hollis once believed that left her feeling overwhelmed, unworthy, or ready to give up. As a working mother, a former foster parent, and a woman who has dealt with insecurities about her body and relationships, she speaks with the insight and kindness of a BFF, helping women unpack the limiting mind-sets that destroy their self-confidence and keep them from moving forward. From her temporary obsession with marrying Matt Damon to a daydream involving hypnotic iguanas to her son's request that she buy a necklace to "be like the other moms," Hollis holds nothing back. With unflinching faith and tenacity, Hollis spurs other women to live with passion and hustle and to awaken their slumbering goals.

I had seen quite a few friends reading this book and I wanted in. I listened to a few podcasts that Rachel had been on and every time I heard her speak I would shake my head and say "YESSS" to many of her topics. Unfortunately her book isn't available at our library, but when I was on YouTube the other day I saw that the audio version of it was there so I decided to give it a listen. I really appreciate the way that this book is set up. She starts each chapter with a lie that she believed, shares some examples about how they played out in her life and then three real life applications on what helped her get past these lies. Like she mentions, she is not there to be a cheerleader or someone to just pass on positive quotes, she is there to push you to become the best you that you can be because she knows you deserve it. Although she writes for a Christian publisher, she touches on topics that can sometimes be seen as taboo - like sex, mental illness, suicide, etc. Rachel is a strong, badass woman who believes you can be one too - but you've gotta fight for it! I would give it an 8 out of 10.

I like this girl's style. I definitely recommend this one to the women who feel like they might be lying to themselves or putting themselves down.

I didn’t know who she was when I got the audio. From the Intro, I thought she was a 22 yo wanting to give self help advice to teenagers. Then in chapter 1 she states she’s a mom of 3, hubby is some Big Wig (and they attend the Oscars), she’s a Christian and she’s a Social Media Influencer. The only part I got correct is that she wants to give self help advise and each chapter is about overcoming a Lie. ie...the Lie? I’m a terrible writer. the Lie? I’m bad at sex.
While her examples put her in the best light and of course there’s the mentions some form of social media. Ugh.
