"In 1999, The New Yorker published Chef Bourdain's shocking, 'Don't Eat Before Reading This.' Bourdain spared no one's appetite when he told all about what happens behind the kitchen door. Bourdain uses the same 'take-no-prisoners' attitude in his deliciously funny and shockingly delectable book, sure to delight gourmands and philistines alike. From Bourdain's first oyster in the Gironde, to his lowly position as a dishwasher in a honky-tonk fish restaurant in Provincetown (where he witnesses for the first time the real delights of being a chef); from the kitchen of the Rainbow Room atop Rockefeller Center, to drug dealers in the East Village, from Tokyo to Paris and back to New York again, Bourdain's tales of the kitchen are as passionate as they are unpredictable. Kitchen Confidential will make your mouth water while your belly aches with laughter. You'll beg the chef for more, please."--Container.

I bought this book in 2000, because of working in the restaurant business and fiancé of he owner of a restaurant.

Great audiobook. Narrated by Anthony Bourdain. It'll make you soooo hungry!

The “down and dirty” facts of working in the restaurant business. Anthony Bourdain is honest about his “highs”, (you learn that he did a lot of drugs) and his lows, during his career. Overall, an informative book with lots of tips on food preparation and warnings about eating out at a restaurant. The audio book is the way to go in order to hear him tell his story.

Talked too fast to follow so didn't listen long.
Interesting reason for getting into the "kitchen game" in the first place (didn't like/understand it), told me something about him however.

"Garlic is divine. Few food items can taste so many distinct ways, handled correctly. Misuse of garlic is a crime...Please, treat your garlic with respect...Avoid at all costs that vile spew you see rotting in oil in screwtop jars. Too lazy to peel fresh? You don't deserve to eat garlic."
— Anthony Bourdain (Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly)
