(Suspiria -- "sighs") An American student dancer was greeted by a freaky torrential rain as soon as her arrival at the Munich airport. The unfriendly sinister taxi driver and very odd events she encountered that night and thereafter would ultimately lead to a deadly dark secret. While not much of a horror story by modern standard, admired the atmospheric soundtrack, the stylistic set design and vibrant exaggerated colors from start to finish. Wonder how the 2018 remake compares.

For a contemporary stylish horror film, i.e. more violent, bloody, graphic nudity, and curses, suggest "The Neon Demon 2016":

If you put plot and voice-over issues aside and enjoy this movie for the beautiful directing and haunting soundtrack, this is a must see. There are several scenes in this movie that tap into the darkest recesses of the human psyche and do it with an authenticity that is usually lacking in horror films.

It was plainly clear to me that when Dario Argento directed this absurd, confused and badly-paced horror film back in 1977 he certainly didn't hold the intelligence level of his audience in very high regard.

And, with that in mind - If Suspiria was really supposed to be Argento's absolute best offering, ever, then I totally cringe and shudder at the thought of what would be judged to be his worst.

From my perspective, there's just so much about the predictable stupidity of Suspiria's less-than-frightening story to complain about that I don't know exactly where to start off.

But, you can bet that there's one thing for sure - This picture took the likes of Witchcraft/Horror movies to a whole new level of dumbness like you wouldn't ever believe was possible.

And, finally - I think that Suspiria suffered considerably from its musical score which was written and performed by Italian, pop wimps "The Goblins". Far too often this discordant and annoyingly over-loud music gave away surprises that lay ahead in store for the viewer long before they actually took place.

Starts off so bloody and gruesome, only a hard-core horror movie fan would want to see this. The movie really didn't go anywhere, so I turned it off about a third of the way through. I am not a fan of purposeless depraved brutality, so it didn't float my boat.

Plays out like a visually twisted fairy tale, this is a stunning horror movie that, while dated by today's standards, is still one of the best Italian shockers ever made. Full of nightmarish images and sequences, Suspiria hs rightfully gained a reputation among serious horror fans as being a must see for anyone who thinks outside the box.

This movie is a trip.

This is a 1977 Italian horror film directed by Dario Argento.
The DVD cover says that the killing is the most vicious murder scene ever filmed, but the scene is so unrealistic that I laughed my head off.
Far from the most shocking and hallucinatory horror movie, it seems to me a B-movie horror-comedy.
If you don't like horror films, you will probably waste your time.

I've been waiting for my library to obtain a copy of this for quite some time. All I can say is that I found it visually... fascinating. The premise is bizarre, the special effects are primitive, and the overdubbing is inherently cheezy but it was a very unique experience. I'm glad I finally got to see Dario's "masterwork".

A young American dancer travels to Germany to attend a prestigious ballet school but encounters madness, murder and black magic instead. It would appear that the school's faculty have some very nasty secrets hidden away within the institution's crumbling walls and it's up to the plucky new girl to get to the bottom (or top) of things. With its gothic chic sets drowned in dark shades of lurid red, histrionic performances, and blaring musical score by The Goblins (think Mike Oldfield vs Skinny Puppy) Argento's undisputed master work is a gloriously overdone tale of contemporary witchcraft. A bit dark at times (as in not enough light) this is still one of the best giallo horror films ever made. Argento's signature penchant for the macabre is clearly evident but this time around he couches it in pure artistry; shadowy hallways framed in stained glass, growling figures silhouetted against white sheets, and everywhere a sense of malevolence and decay. One helluva guilty pleasure!

One of the most beautiful horror movies you will ever see. The director is wonderful, lighting and surroundings are eerily perfect. Simular in cinematography to Peter Greenaway. The story isn't bad either, but the atmosphere and backdrop both steal the show.
