"Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could?" -- Amazon.com

Reading this book was such an eye opener and a true inspiration. Jackie broke down point by point of what it was like living the gay lifestyle and how Jesus pulled her out and gave her something better (finding her loving husband and becoming a mother). I agree with WordWoman49 in that this book was not meant to condemn those who are gay, rather it's more of a guide to understanding them and loving them. Yes, God desires for us to have an intimate and fruitful relationship with Him; however, we accomplish that by following and obeying what He says. God loves us and keeps on calling for our hearts even when we do not listen. Jackie testifies to hearing God tell her to let go of her girlfriend, because she was keeping Jackie from God (from having a complete relationship with Him). Of course letting go was a definite struggle, and Jackie finds herself contiually crying out to God for His help during times of temptation. She also points out that a heterosexual relationship does not "fix" being gay, as Christians and others may think. It must first begin with a heart and mind change as God works in your life and as you pursue a closer relationship with Him. Jackie Hill Perry stands true to the fact that God created marriage to be between one man and one woman, and that even from birth God designed and created her to be the woman she was meant to be. And what a wonderful, godly woman she is! I totally recommend checking out her youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCElWlmvQnOnlPvhVdvBoQJQ

This book has so much to say to me, a straight person; and it's not about witnessing to, converting, nor condemning gay people.

Jackie Hill Perry shared her struggle(s) very personally; from the awkwardness of wearing women's underwear, to the ease of loving women, plus the temptation to flirt with a pretty girl. She lets readers inside her mind and heart.

My understanding grew. My compassion grew.

Jackie shared keys to perseverance, which we all need because we all struggle with our own sins.

Jackie writes, more than once, that God didn't deliver her from homosexuality. He delivered her from ALL sin. God's goal wasn't/isn't heterosexuality--the only answer many Christians give. His desire is salvation and an intimate relationship with Him.

Thanks for sharing this very important part of your life. I trust it will help many understand why being gay is something God gave you at birth!
