Powerful and serious. I hope that Oaklanders can conquer it's long history of violence similar to Richmond and East Palo Alto regardless of socio-economic status. Liberty and justice for all.

Quite powerful and timely. It managed to successfully move between comedy and deep drama. However, it wasn't perfect, with some un-evenness, and sections that didn't add anything. (And did I mention that I am sick and tired of all the horrible language and attitudes of American gangsta culture?) Overall, worth watching, especially since it provided some insightful critique of said gangsta culture.

Powerful movie about how we judge first by what we think we see, rather than understanding or fully seeing first before judging. There are English SDH subtitles, so if you don't understand what is being said, use them. Still, that's part of the whole judgement thing...

Powerful. This film stayed with me long after viewing.

We lasted 45 minuets and finally turned it off. To much of the talking going on was difficult to understand. Actors spoke like uneducated people with a limited vocabulary so they used the F--k word often when discussing any situation or event. I am a senior citizen and been around but never heard or seen people talk and act the way these people do. Maybe I have seen to many really good movies over the years and this one does not hold a candle to any movie worth watching.

The two writers/actors succeeded brilliantly, per wiki:

The screenplay for Blindspotting was written by Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs over a period of nine years. Daveed, who grew up in Oakland, and Rafael, who grew up in bordering Berkeley, California, felt that cinematic portrayals of the San Francisco Bay Area have constantly "missed something". They wanted to draw attention to the culture, community, and sense of "heightened reality" that shape life in Oakland. The film addresses issues of gentrification, police violence, and racism.

Note: Been to most of the locations shown in the film, including the historic Piedmont Mountain View Cemetery above North-East Oakland that Collin runs through daily.

Here is an excellent review from PBS's KQED:

No, 'cause you can't go against what your brain wants to see first. Unless you spend the time to retrain your brain, which is hella hard, so you're always gonna be instinctually blind to the spot you weren't seeing.
