This book is magic! We spend an afternoon with a young girl and her grandfather, who shows her to see with her own eyes the miraculous cycles of life, death, and growth. Grandfather shows us the cycles, represented through circles he describes with his words and with his hands, and he shows us to see our place in the cycles. The illustrator shows us these cycles by drawing circles through everything and showing us the connections between what is visible and what is invisible, like the roots of trees, or the cosmos that exist in each living thing. There is profound respect and love for the earth in the words and in the ritualistic actions of the young girl and her grandfather that is familiar and cozy. The bright colors and deep, peaceful earth tones make each page feel warm and happy, and that stays with you long after you finish reading. Like the title tells us, circles are all around us if we learn to look for them!
Meet the authors on Saturday, March 10th from 4-5pm at the Library’s Nuestras Raíces stage at the 2018 Tucson Festival of Books.
