"From Graham Norton, the BAFTA-award-winning Irish television host and author of the "sparkling and impish" (Daily Mail) memoirs The Life and Loves of a He Devil and So Me, comes a charming debut novel set in an idyllic Irish village where a bumbling investigator has to sort through decades of gossip and secrets to solve a mysterious crime. The remote Irish village of Duneen has known little drama but when human remains are discovered on an old farm, suspected to be that of Tommy Burke--a former lover of two different inhabitants--the village's dark past begins to unravel. As the frustrated sergeant PJ Collins struggles to solve a genuine case for the first time in his life, he unearths a community's worth of anger and resentments, secrets and regret. In this darkly comic, touching, and at times heartbreaking novel, perfect for fans of J.K. Rowling's The Casual Vacancy, Graham Norton employs his acerbic wit to breathe life into a host of lovable characters, and explore--with searing honesty--the complexities and contradictions that make us human"-- Provided by publisher.

Like so many, I know Graham Norton as a TV interviewer from Youtube. I was willing to take a look and was very surprised. From the first page he had created an interesting character that was followed by a village that entertained me. He showed all of his characters as normal people with many failings rising enough to just muddle through their lives to the end of the story. For me most enjoyable.

You can really see Norton's understanding of people, in less than a page he can reveal so much about a person. At first I thought this was going to be another book for people who faint at a little sex or a few curse words, but nope. Also I have zero clue what the title is about, but I think it added to an ending I didn't expect, so maybe that's for the best.

A better than average first novel. Bones discovered on a farm in rural Ireland cause past secrets to be uncovered. The strength of this novel is the characters who are portrayed with great empathy.

I saw this author being interviewed on TV. His novel sounded interesting so I got a copy from the library. I'm really enjoying the book.

It's a lighter mystery with a bit of humor added. The characters are great, especially P.J. Collins, the overweight sergeant.
