Add a CommentIt took me the entire span of the book, but in the end I really ended up liking it. I’m finding that I have now read quite a few books that have a very similar theme. Small town, parent death, leaving behind a bookstore or restaurant to an estranged daughter or niece who is financially struggling and debates on whether to sell the place to a local real estate antagonist or to revamp the business into something sustainable. This book was complicated by many different love stories that all revolved or resolved in the bookshop but I did find so many characters and stories too be confusing until 3/4 of the way through to keep everyone straight. This is a real feel good read, nothing groundbreaking in this book but it’s an entertaining read.
This is literally my favorite book, (yes even better than Harry Potter and Percy Jackson and all the 'billion-dollar books' out there). It tells so many tales of love in all its forms, of romantic love, hard love, easy love, love for family, and love for books. If you loved Taylor swift's new album for the stories and the vibes, you will love this book just as much, if not more.

Emilia Nightingale has returned to Peasebrook to bury her father and deal with his business, Nightingale Books. As she struggles with her grief, Emilia learns that the bookshop is in poor financial shape. Despite a handsome offer from a developer, Emilia takes the plunge and resolves to honor her father's memory by running the bookshop. As she becomes more settled, Emilia becomes involved with the residents and learns about her father's impact on the village. This novel, full of endearing characters, classical music, and English customs, could easily be made into a movie. This novel is the Willa Cather Book Club's August 2019 selection.
A charming valentine to lovers, books, and lovers of books. Think of it as a British sequel to “The Storied Life Of A.J. Rivkay.”
Really enjoyed this book. Took a little while to get into it, but was ultimately charmed by a wide cast of characters. Very nicely written, making reading time a sweet escape for anyone who would love to find love in a book shop.
An absolutely fabulous multi-protagonist story with a treasured bookshop as the focal point to their intersecting lives. I grieved, celebrated, and fell in love right along with each character. I will undoubtedly be seeking out more stories from this author.
I had a hard time getting through this book, it seemed to drag on and on and on. However, I was interested in the characters and what happened to them so I continued on and finished the book. I had seen the movie "Love Actually" and understood the many references of similarities in the two stories. I did finish the book and, of course, everyone lived happily ever after!!
This was the perfect, quick, summer read for a plane trip.
"Enchanting" is the perfect description. This book was recommended to me by a librarian friend who lives in Colorado. She wants to live in the bookshop. It is located near Oxford University in England, and I think the story would make a wonderful movie.
