"TOMMY'S HONOUR is based on the powerfully moving true story of the challenging relationship between "Old" Tom and "Young" Tommy Morris, the dynamic father-son team who ushered in the modern game of golf. As their fame grew, Tom and Tommy, Scotland's Golf Royalty, were touched by drama and personal tragedy. At first matching his father's success, Tommy's talent and fame grew to outshine his father's accomplishments and respect as founder of the Open Championship in 1860 with a series of his own triumphs. But in contrast to Tommy's public persona, his personal turmoil ultimately led him to rebel against both the aristocracy who gave him opportunity and the parents who shunned his passionate relationship with his wife"--container.

This is a good film - even for non-fans of golf. The story is fairly good and it's well acted and beautifully photographed.

Variety of comments:) I liked this because of the game, the history, the country & I've taken a photo of the St. A burial place memorial. If one wants more info on the Morris family there are books, this film may not cover all aspects. I found it amusing one of the producers of this film is named Gutta Percha - one of the very first products of golf balls.

I've known Old Tom was (not a founder of golf) but a celebrated maker of balls, clubs & eventually courses & his great expertise as a golfer. Having played Royal Dornoch, I'm sorry I did not know the significance of the designer. Yes, the accent can be challenging, thank goodness for subtitles. The scenery was a bit limited to St. A area & likely not filmed in the summer months - the heavy coats shown in the bonus selection - well worth the time to view. Otherwise, the conditions shown of the course are accurate, not manicured as in the US.

The bonus has the director Connery speaking of his personal experience on the course playing with his father & his reverence to Morris, leading him to making this film. No clue at the time that he's the son of, none other than Sean 007. I found that on a search.

Loved the true story on one of the only father and son teams to complete in the beginning history of golf in Ireland. All the actors whether major or minor are terrific. Of course, Ireland is a beautiful place to watch a golf story. Now I don't know a thing about golf, but after watching this movie, I can really appreciate the skill and courage it takes to play on a professional level! Give this movie a chance!

I really like this film and I am not a golf fan. I watched it because of the actress, Opelia Lovibond (played young Tommy's wife), and was not disappointed as it was well acted with an interesting script.
The only problem I had with it, was catching all of the conversation due to the Scottish accent.
The end script lets the viewer know that Tommy Morris Senior, was considered the "founding father" of golf, designing nearly 70 golf courses and competed until the age of 75 and was the oldest to win the Open, at 46. Tommy Sr died in 1908 at the age of 86.
Tommy Morris Junior was the youngest to win the Open at age 17 and died on Christmas Day at the age of 24 in 1875.
Well worth the watch, as I got to care about the real life people.
There was a special feature on the DVD of the making of the movie, but did not watch it.

Low-energy and boring. Not enough information on why the Morris family was so important to the game. Good cast, bad script, could have been much more exciting.
