A sweet book with lovely art that, in my adult analysis, works as a metaphor for many different things: extinction, climate change, depression, loneliness. It's about a yellow warbler who loves to human watch, until this thick fog rolls in and stays long term, and he can't even see any humans any more. Kids will have no problem seeing that this is a book about friendship and community.

This book took a wrong turn, unfortunately, in the story line. I think it could have emphasized more of what we all need to do to save the planet. It is like it fell off a cliff, the story line (that is) and couldn't be salvaged. The artwork is lovely.

The Fog by Kyo Maclear is gorgeous story with even more gorgeous artwork to accompany it. It's also a parable about working together as a community, small or large. I recommend you read it with your kids.

I like that the story is told from the bird's point of view. The illustrations are a great mix of beautiful backgrounds and funny characters.
