Strong investigative story line in this first book of a new series, An FBI K-9 novel.

Every chapter starts with a definition of a search & rescue term, then a date, time & location.
I found this helped to keep the tension level up as you were aware of the time pressure.

When Meg Jennings lost her PD K-9 partner she gave up police work until Hawk came along. Now working FBI Search & Rescue, Meg & Hawk are on the trail of a home-grown bomber terrorizing DC and 2 neighboring states.

The characters are well defined including Meg's sister, her workmates and their K-9 partners, firefighters and other agency staffers.

Potential relationship between Meg, a reporter and a firefighter is hinted at.

Good first book. interesting characters. I rooted for them and their dogs. Didn't care for the addition of a same-sex character. Is this something authors think they have to have in their plot? So not necessary nor does it add to the story. The language a few times was profane using both God's and Jesus' name in vain. Again, not necessary. Be more creative.
