Even as Mo Willems has become a commodity to be merchandised, it is delightful to see him writing and illustrating in a fresh vein (even rhyming in creative ways throughout the text!). Don't take your clarinet to Tibet...

Will Nanette get a baguette? You'll have to read the story to find out!

If you like this type of rhyme book (I SURE DO!) you should check out A Boy and His Bunny, by Sean Bryan.

A silly adventure about being trusted alone on an errand ... but what really makes this one magical is how Willems masterfully creates a story using a single rhyme (the -et family) and it just rolls off the tongue. Read it aloud!

A fantastic new read by Mo Willems! This book had me laughing out loud as I read it, and was immediately placed in my queue for Family Story Time! Classic Mo Willems humour with a terrific and hilarious rhyming scheme.

A delightfully witty story about the temptations of freshly baked bread. Another classic Mo Willems.

In this rhyming story (really, who knew there were so many words that rhymed with 'baguette'?), Nanette is sent to the boulangerie for the first time to purchase her family's baguette. The baguette is warm, and smells wonderful, so naturally Nanette is unable to resist the urge to take a bite. And another. And another. "Beset with regret", she must decide what to do. Does she tell her mother the truth?

Willems created the art by building 3D scenes, photographing, and digitally enhancing, which creates a unique feel to the illustrations. The rhymes are fun and kids will enjoy hearing this story multiple times.

Perhaps I love Nanette more than the Pigeon (sorry, Pigeon)!! Willems' picture book magnum opus!

Little Nanette is off to the store on her own to purchase fresh-baked bread for her mother for the very first time!

Spoiler: Poor Nanette succumbs to the incredible warmth and deliciousness of freshly baked bread before she gets home to her mother...

One of my favourite picture book read-alouds of 2016. Pair this with Tankard's Hungry Bird for ultimate food themed storytime fun.

You bet I loved Nanette's Baguette! This silly rhyming story about Nanette's first time buying a baguette on her own builds in a wonderful way and even adults will be cackling by the end. Mo Willems writing is almost Seuss-ian, and I love the paper collage art style. This is another Mo Willems classic!
