Characters: 10/10
Plot: 9/10
Writing: 10/10
I listened to this on audiobook, which was a really enjoyable experience.
*Sigh* I knew the ending before I started it (I'd looked it up when I saw the movie trailer because I wanted to know if it would be sad or not), so I knew it was coming the whole time. I don't like sad endings, and I'm morally opposed to the way it ended, but I understand it from the characters' perspectives and the development of the story.
I loved these characters. They were so REAL--better developed than most characters I've read anywhere. The writing was fantastic. The voice was amazing. The style was entrancing. Although it wasn't necessarily emotionally satisfying, it was one of the best-written books I've read.
My biggest question of this book is why go into other characters' perspectives? Thankfully each divergence was only a chapter long, but that short time was enough to throw me off. I think I understood the stakes for each character without having to hear it from them directly; I don't think those portions added to the experience.

HATED it. I wanted to like it but it was dark, dreary, boring and depressing.
The main character, Lou, is whiny and needs a man to tell her what to do. More than half the book is them hating each other and arguing all the time, and then all of a sudden she loves him. This story basically just romanticizes suicide. Not an uplifting read. NOT a love story.

How did they get "best seller" out of this one? More like something to start a fire with is more like it.

Dad in this family's crude, (boyfriend no day at the beach either) but then I'm used to men with alot more class than this. You feel sorry for people who don't know what they're "here" for; in other words: paucity of spiritual understanding/insight in this story though it is interesting to see how pagans handle these things. He killed the (damaged) body but what happened to his soul or didn't he have one?

***Possible Spoilers***

While this book is well written, and the audiobook skillfully performed, I found the plot to be cliched. We've seen similar storylines many times and, to me, they all seem to convey the same troublesome message: that if someone is disabled, they're probably better off dead. I'm not saying that I don't support someone's right to choose what they want for their life, and it's good that people are talking about the issue, but for once I'd like to see a more affirming message. I wanted to be surprised by this book, but it went exactly how I expected it to go.

This story felt like it was real life and not a work of fiction.
Louisa Clark looses her job at the cafe and takes on a job of paid companion, for which she is ill qualified. Lou becomes companion to Will Traynor who is wheelchair bound because of an accident. Lou often wants to quit but finds the determination to stick with it and be there when Will needs her most.

I really enjoyed this book. At points in the book, I actually spoke out loud...No, Go, Don't. I recommend it a lot to people. Very good read.
