Hope's journey from lonely sheltered girl to time traveler included so many of the emotions that a teen in a new environment goes through. I enjoyed seeing her grow in confidence as well as deal with the challenges of learning that life isn't always what you thought it would be. (The language was sometimes rougher than I thought it needed to be)

This is billed by the publisher as "Outlander for teens" which kind of is and isn't true. The sci-fi/time travel aspect is a lot more purposeful and important in this one, in ways that I find interesting and potentially promising in terms of the future arc of the series. On the flip side, that's a hard comparison to live up to, and this definitely isn't as compulsively readable as Gabaldon's work. Taylor does a good job at describing the total foreignness of medieval England for a modern teenage time traveler, and while the romantic subplot was a bit predictable, there's still plenty to appeal here to teen readers, even if this adult wasn't 100% convinced.
