Never did National Lampoon. I was born in 1964 - Mad Magazine pulled the comical horses for this kid. This film was vey informative....and funny. Even SCTV's Joe Flaherty is spotted in the studio breaking comedic ground. The good ol' days......

When I was an awkward adolescent there were a few things that shaped my (unfortunate) sense of humour: Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Saturday Night Live, and most importantly, National Lampoon Magazine. This entertaining documentary examines the meteoric rise and sad fall of the best English language satirical magazine to ever grace a newsstand not to mention launching a dozen careers from Chevy Chase to Bill Murray. Resolutely non-PC and sure to offend. Oh how I wish I had saved my stack of back issues.

An unfortunate testament to just how far one can get selling juvenile comedy and raunch. Heavy Metal magazine was developed by Mogel too at the same time and was in every way superior, imaginatively, artistically, and intellectually. Lampoon was, by comparison, gutter trash. Hard to believe the the two magazines sprouted from the same publisher.
