"Newly recovered from a quarter-life meltdown, Clara Bensen decided to test her comeback by signing up for an online dating account. She never expected to meet Jeff, a wildly energetic university professor with a reputation for bucking convention. They barely know each other's last names when they agree to set out on a risky travel experiment spanning eight countries and three weeks. The catch? No hotel reservations, no plans, and best of all, no baggage. Clara's story will resonate with adventurers and homebodies alike--it's at once a romance, a travelogue, and a bright modern take on the age-old questions: How do you find the courage to explore beyond your comfort zone? Can you love someone without the need for labels and commitment? Is it possible to truly leave your baggage behind?,"--Amazon.com.

Clara Bensen is living a quiet and unfulfilling life after suffering a breakdown. That all changes when she meets a man on a dating website and embarks on a physical and emotional journey with him, traveling through 8 countries, with no baggage. Bensen's travelogue/memoir is about second chances, challenging social norms and expectations, and examining what we think we need vs. what we actually need. This exciting adventure gives readers a quick snapshot of the regions traveled and leaves one feeling hopeful.

A 20-something’s tale of a romance with an eccentric professor and the excitement of travelling for 3-weeks in Europe without any luggage. It's also an exploration of what's important in a relationship and in life. And then to top it off, the author writes openly about her struggles with mental illness. This is a memoir that women in their 20s-30s might relate to.

Naval gazing aside, I found this book to do a lot more than inform me of what it was like to take a risk that very few would entertain for more than 2 seconds. Bravo to Clara for the courage, and 4 stars for sharing her personal journey of growth and discovery.

A likable and light read. While this type of memoir can often come off as self-indulgent the naval-gazing isn't too distracting and the descriptions of the locales and experiences shine.

While it's not uncommon for couples to meet on a dating website, it's a bit unusual when an early date lasts three weeks and covers eight countries. But after introverted 20-something Clara (who'd only recently recovered from a mental breakdown) and larger-than-life, unconventional professor Jeff met, that's what happened. With only the colorful clothing on their backs (a bottle-green dress for her and cherry-red chinos for him) and no hotel reservations or real plans, they traveled via plane, car, train, ferry, bus, and bike in Turkey, Greece, Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, England, and more, before finally heading home to Texas. This engaging, romantic travelogue questions what freedom is and we really need in life, and it thoughtfully deals with mental illness.
