this book was really good. I liked how the kids(nick and Eryn) were not scared to do anything, like (this a SPOILER if you just started), sneak out of their house on a blizzard to find out that their stepsiblings are robots. it is really entertaining. i would give it five stars.

This book was... interesting. First of all, it was kind of creepy (page 139!!!) And now I need to check if any grown-ups aren't perhaps (WAIT STOP don't read the next word because it could spoil the book for you...!)

robots. And I also need to read the second book, "In Over Their Heads". (This is one of those books where you have to read the sequel to discover how the characters save the world.) I expected it to be better but I can still recommend it if you'd like to read about robots and humans or robots taking over the world. I would give it 3 out of 5 stars.

I've read quite a few of the books by Margaret Peterson Haddix. She is definitely one of my favorite authors, as I enjoy books with a twist, something unusual and generally unexpected, which her books tend to have. Under Their Skin is one her most recent books. It tells of twelve-year-old twins who are determined to uncover why their parents and stepfather insist on keeping them apart from their new step siblings; who they just found out even existed.

Okay. First of all if you know the spoiler because of WHAT CATEGORY THE BOOK IS UNDER, you know the entire plot. So since I knew the biggest twist it made 60% of the book irritating because they had to set up the characters, discover the secret, come to grips with the secrets, have a whole character arc etc etc. I didn't even mind the edge drop off ending because I knew there wasn't enough space to resolve anything. That being said, its very clever idea and intriguing plot. Since its just a two part book I'm also inclined to give more slack because book 2 is probably going to be fascinating but only because this book set it all up. I do think it would appeal strongly to 4-6 graders. Its not dystopian but it is and I love that there is that paradox.

Meh. I expected more out of this book. The book started out good, but I got so distracted by the not great writing. If I didn't know better, I would have thought this was written by a first-time author, and not a seasoned author like Haddix. The plot was interesting, and I will likely read more in the series, but I hope the writing improves.

this book was good but not as great as Haddix other books. Plot wise there many twist I did not see coming. The main complaint that I have is The character of Eryn she was a bit of a brat an unlikable. I understand that she found out tons of shocking news but she was downright rude to the others. Overall good read and I will read the next one in the series went it comes out.

This is a summary of what basically happens with this story and so it does spoil:
Twins Nick and Eryn's mom gets remarried but their new stepdad, Michael, won't let them meet their step-siblings. After Nick and Eryn try to figure out this weird mystery they discover that Ava and Jackson (their step-siblings) are... ROBOTS! And their mom, Michael's ex-wife, is a robot too! Then the twins' mom reveal that ALL grown-ups are actually robots, and only kids under the age of 12 (including Nick and Eryn) are human. They're the only ones alive after the human race went extinct. So the twins' job is now to bring back humans. It's really complicated but I can recommend it!
