"An acerbic, no holds barred indictment of business as usual in Washington, DC--where our elected leaders provide a fig leaf for those who really hold the levers of power--by a 28-year veteran of the Hill, the bestselling author of The Party Is Over, have you ever noticed that behind all the mud-slinging and invective there isn't much difference between the parties? For all of his big talk and promises of change, Obama is basically Bush lite. And Hillary--or Jeb--will be more of the same. We spend ten times more on the political circus leading up to elections than any other country, but what are we getting for all of that money? The truth, as Mike Lofgren reveals in this devastating takedown of beltway business, is that our elected leaders provide a fig leaf for those who really hold the levers of power, the unelected functionaries of our ever-growing bureaucracies who decide America's defense, intelligence, and foreign policy and the corporate titans who control them. If it sounds like House of Cards it's because there is more truth to that than you might care to believe. Mike Lofgren draws on his three decades on the Hill to take you behind the scenes and map out where power is really held in Washington, in the bowels of what he calls "the deep state.""-- Provided by publisher.

There maybe some nuggets of truth in this, but there are so many Rat droppings; who would want to consume it. Did not make it thru 50 pages. In short this author is a deceived fool.

[An important item/connection the author doesn't mention: the lobbyist group for the international super-rich, the Bretton Woods Committee [] and the lobbyist group for the central bankers, the Group of Thirty [] both have the same phone numbers and administrators - - and address - - in their D.C. office.]
Not a total waste of time, but soooo very late on the scene, much like everything else from the NY Times. Yes, the author discusses why Peter Thiel is a dufus and colossally disingenuous hypocrite [but not that his best bud is Ann Coulter]; he touches on the neocons at the supposedly non-partisan Brookings Institution; that Obama and Hillary's asst. sec'y of state, Victoria Nuland, was Dick Cheney's defense policy advisor, but he really never goes all that deep, pretty much standard academic fare, I'm afraid.
Try David Talbot's The Devil's Chessboard.
Obviously, since the coup d'etat in 1963, and the follow-up murders of Rev. King and Sen. Bobby Kennedy, no American government has had any legitimacy, and those involved in the assassination of President Kennedy - - Johnson, Nixon, Ford and Geo. H.W. Bush - - all became president!
