Concluding a powerful and groundbreaking five-season run, "Boardwalk Empire" is an Emmy-winning HBO drama series from Academy Award nominee/Emmy Award winner Terence Winter and Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese. Season 5 begins in 1931, a full six years after the end of Season 4. In stark contrast with the Roaring '20s, the country is in the throes of the Great Depression, and with the end of Prohibition in sight, Nucky is looking to legitimize himself by forging alliances with liquor producers. Season 5 also includes flashback scenes of Nucky, Eli, the Commodore, Gillian and others from 1884-1900 - childhood experiences that would shape their relationships and their futures.

Watched the last season of Justified and Boardwalk Empire back to back. Edge to Boardwalk but it was close

A fascinating fictionalized historical account of prohibition, greed, human suffering, social injustice...this is a multi-layered character study of some notorious criminals/politicians as they struggle to stay alive while getting rich during American prohibition. Al Capone, Lucky Luciano and Edgar J Hoover - these are some of the key players in this beautiful series. Actors, writers, cinematographers, directors...this series was obviously a labor of love. Many scenes brought me to tears.

I reeeally enjoyed this series, and am sorry to see it end. I wasn't particularly fond of the fate of some, not the happy ending I would've preferred, but this whole scenario wasn't packed with giggles by any means anyways so I imagine things worked out as they inevitably should have. Outstanding HBO series. FIVE STARS.
