Very interesting read. This was my first time reading any material from Quinn. I guess I will read his first novel!

A delightful and compelling read: engrossing enough to finish in one day.

Historical fiction isn't usual fave but the book got strong reviews and I wanted to see how a story involving race, Reconstruction and the birth of a "new South" might fare. Quinn does not disappoint.

Oh there's the errant loose end and the love story never explored much less resolved but these are tangential to the thrust of the book. Scribe is all about dying, rebirth, the sense of order and defining what society can - and should - look like. Read this book.
