In this Book2 of the Binny series, the kids are a year older. (I like that.) Binny is now 12, Clem turned 17, James turned 6. In Chapter 1, they are in their new little home in a small town names Cornwall -- starting their new schools the next day.
But the night after day1 of school, a storm rips the roof off their house. So, for a few months they must rent an old vacation house -- that's full of secrets about the kids who used to live there. I will remember the character named Clarry.
I loved this book -- the believable characters and dialog, the complex plot, the mix of comedy, caring, anger, sadness, and suspense -- even some poignant history. I think it rates 5⭐️ as a stand-alone novel. It's a good read for kids over 7, teens, and adults.
Happily, Book3 is already out, on order at my library.
Readers who enjoyed McKay's Casson family series, as well as Binny's first outing, will welcome this sequel. In typical Hilary McKay fashion, it's laugh-out-loud funny and full of warm and loveable characters. I love everything McKay writes -- please say that there are more Binny books on the way!
