You can't always count on people, but you can always count on your dog. Vogelsang was buoyed through adolescence, veterinary school, and the early years of motherhood by Taffy, the fearsome Lhasa; Emmett, the devil-may-care Golden; and Kekoa, the neurotic senior Labrador. They were always by her side, educating her in empathy and understanding for all the oddballs and misfits who come through the vet clinic doors. Also beside her is Kevin, a human friend who lives with the joie de vivre most people only dream of having.

This book is written about the author's life from childhood through veterinary school and into adulthood as a wife, mother and veterinarian.

I enjoyed this book because I am a dog lover and really enjoyed the stories of her journey through the different phases that led her to now be an in home hospice care vet. This book is interesting, funny, sad, and just thoroughly enjoyable. The antics of her own pets and stories of pets in her practice were very entertaining. Her friendship with college friend Kevin ties the story all together.

I think any reader with even the slightest interest in pets or the veterinary field would enjoy this book.
