I have a gardener's inherent belief in the natural order of things. Soft-petalled flowers that go to seed. The resolute passage of the seasons. Swallows that fly thousands of miles to follow the eternal summer. Children who don't die before their parents. A community in shock When eighteen-year-old Rosie Anderson disappears, the idyllic village where she lived will never be the same again. Local gardener Kate is struck with guilt. She'd come to know Rosie well, and thought she understood her - perhaps better even than Rosie's own mother. A family torn apart Rosie was beautiful, kind and gentle. She came from a loving family and she had her whole life ahead of her. Who could possibly want to harm her? And why? A keeper of secrets Kate is convinced the police are missing something. She's certain that someone in the village knows more than they're letting on.

Not really my cup of tea. The most notable theme that lingers is the fact that there's little to prevent parents from doing the most hideous things to their children, whether physically or psychologically.
I usually have little patience for "poor me" victim accounts but I immediately felt resentful at the treatment to which Rosie's image-conscious self-centered parents subject her. Apart from that, I found it difficult to relate to any of the characters.

A different kind of book, captures you for the scary ride. Storyline is dark but believable. Kept you interested and engaged right till the end.

I found the italicized sections of the book very tiring to read.

"The Bones of You" is a slow-burn thriller that takes place in a quiet, seemingly peaceful suburb. When the eldest daughter of a famous reporter goes missing, the whole neighborhood is caught off-guard. Kate used to let Rosie help her with the horses, but there was always something off about the girl. Nightmares come to life when Rosie is found brutally murdered in the woods nearby.

Jo, Rosie's mother, is utterly lost and devastated. Luckily, she has found a friend in Kate, who drops by to check on her every few days. As the family's secrets slowly unfold, Kate begins to see that even the most pristine-seeming lives have their problems. Months after the murder, Kate begins to receive mysterious and frightening riddles shoved through her mail slot. "The Bones of You" is a story filled with lies, abuse, murder, and seduction, all set in a quaint neighborhood that just might house a murderer.

Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
