SummaryAdd a Summary
First and foremost treat this book as if it was a rated R movie in my opinion.
The main character Luke begins the novel on his way to Africa to go to an under sea station after his brother appears to send some sort of strange distress signal from this very station. On his journey it is revealed that humanity is suffering from a world wide disease called 'The Gets' which causes people to forget enough until they die (forgetting to breath, eat, etc). Luke's brother is at the bottom of the Marianas Trench trying to research a recently discovered substance called Ambrosia which appears to be able to cure anything. Upon arriving at the top side station Luke observes this ambrosia and meats his partner Alice or Al who will navigate the submarine to take them down to the station. A few chapters contain flash backs about Luke's terrible childhood and the kidnapping of his son. There are also a few chapters which detail the journey down to the station. Once they get to the station everything falls to shit. It is also very difficult to explain. The long and short of it seems that there is some kind of ancient entity which was imprisoned in the trench for being evil?? They appear as monsters/boogey men with weird claw hands. They have been trying to manipulate their way to the surface since time immemorial?? The ambrosia is a substance they can control which exerts their potential presence on the world. They have finally attracted humans to the trench with this substance and then seem to mess with them. Each member in the station go insane and die in various gory circumstances. Luke eventually is corrupted as well and the monsters appear to use his body to gain access to the top side world. It is revealed that the creatures value intelligence and because of his brother he has been watched his whole life, and they also took his son as bait.
