Much more complex than her earlier work, this is a historically-perceptive book where multiple narrators over a range of time periods piece together the story of the photograph on the front cover. Well worth reading.
From our 2015 #80DayRead Summer Reading Club traveler Erin: Great story spanning 3 generations of a family. Each of the 9 chapters/days is written in the perspective of a different family member. An easy and pleasurable read!

Looking forward to reading this book after reading this story behind its inspiration - a real unidentified photo (on the cover) from Melbourne in 1940.
This disappointed me somewhat. Each chapter was a glimpse into the lives of family members immediately prior to WW2 to present day Melbourne, not clearly apparent at first, you needed to look for clues for the connections. I liked the early time period stories best, and the author did well to evoc the time period in which she wrote.
