Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick was a somewhat surprisingly, enjoyable read for me. I was familiar with her popular Hush, Hush series (still on my TBR) but having never read her, I didn’t have any expectations. I was actually a bit nervous of how that shift from urban fantasy to contemporary went for her. Fitzpatrick understands the contemporary genre really well. I’m not a big contemporary reader, so becoming a new fan of Fitzpatrick through Black Ice was a big thing for me. I don’t know when I’ll get to her Hush, Hush series, but I will be making time for her recent release, Dangerous Lies.

In Black Ice, the main character is Britt Pheiffer and I took an instant liking to her. She’s been training for a hiking trip to the Teton Range with her best friend for the past year. Things take a turn for the worst when the two of them get lost in a major snowstorm and are forced to shelter in a cabin with two dangerous strangers. Britt also needs to watch out for the serial killer, who may or may not be involved with these strangers. The mystery surrounding the serial killer was well-played; I didn’t figure it out until very close to the end – and I’m great at figuring out those things! The entire survival aspect, and Britt needing to rely on what she’s learned in the past year was well-researched. I’d without a doubt recommend this thrilling novel!

Fitzpatrick has written some incredible novels but Black Ice is not. Black Ice starts out dry and not interesting at all. There have been multiple times when I contemplated putting the book down but just when it gets bad it gets slightly entertaining. Black Ice romanticizes a dangerous situation. Yet only at the end of the novel it holds interest, for the real chapter of the plot line. The final chapter is an epilogue that goes back to the romance between the two characters. Black Ice would have been much better if there was no romance involved at all.

Definitely one of the better books I have recently read of this author. She must have quite the imagination to come up with this book, as it was very intriguing an interesting. The plot flowed smoothly and seamlessly into critical parts and kept at the suspense levels. I guessed at who the crime committing person was all throughout the book, but was kind of shocked when it turned out to be who I suspected it was all along! That came off as a delight and kind of a shock. This was a great romance, mystery, and suspense novel. I would definitely recommend this to all my friends if I could actually remember to! 5/5

In the backdrop of a harsh blizzard, Black Ice is a gripping story, full of mystery and romance. With just the right amount of creepiness, the plot and characters are introduced. I felt that the setting is perfect for the storyline, as it enhances the build-up of suspense. To be truthful, this is an effectively written story, but very predictable. In fact, I was quite disappointed as the outcome of the story did not surprise me at all. I was able to figure out the answers to important questions long before they were revealed. Consequently, the book became a little boring to read. Nonetheless, the sudden turn of events in the story successfully create a mysterious and suspenseful mood. Black Ice will definitely appeal to those who enjoy reading mysteries.

This novel has many scary twist and turns and readers will be transfixed as they try to figure out “who is friend and who is foe” until the end.

Loved the survival elements of the story, some of the character development was pretty interesting, and the romance was good. At some points the flashbacks distracted from the main storyline, and the big twist could be predicted far in advance, but overall this book was pretty well written. Not a deep read, but it does fine with its adventure, thrills, and fairly well-executed love subplot.

Decent read. Didn't grab me like the Hush Hush series did, character development was mediocre and it tried too hard to be suspenseful. Still, good read, with one of those tidy endings that leaves you satisfied

Another good book by Becca Fitzpatrick. I enjoyed the Hush Hush series and this book was just as good. Full of suspense and a page turner. Looking forward to her next book.

I kept reading because the book was suspenseful, but I didn't like the characters very much. I saw the big twist coming, but it was revealed much too abruptly. The last few chapters were a hot mess, and the epilogue only served for a contrived happy ending. But, it was entertaining and fast paced.

From a Hush, Hush fan, I thought that this was one of Becca Fitzpatrick's best! I can only wish that Jude is real... *adopts faraway, dreamy expression*
