This book is a steam punk romance. It read very much like a fan fiction that got published only because publishers are trying to “ride the latest craze”. No vampires, luckily, but not really entertaining either.

The world building is adequate at best. I did like the use of crystals, which shows some creativity rather than just plain steam to power machinery.

Of course there are “the goodies” and “the baddies” who have been fighting for power/dominance of the intellectual and tools of the steam punk world for centuries. So simplistic; having only 2 factions in this power struggle. It could have been a cold war story if someone used a search and replace function for “the goodies” (US) vs. “the baddies” (USSR).

The world at large is mundane and oblivious to existence of “the baddies”. These of course in a cold war story would be the terrorists like the Red Brigade.

Spoiler alert:

They get married, but no mention of the wedding is present. They are lovers and then wham, she is referring to him as her husband? Whaaat? Did I miss a chapter?
