This is a really good read. It kept me awake at night trying to figure out who the murderer was and the last few chapters wove everything together in a way that didn't insult the reader with sneaky stuff we hadn't been told. I agree with the ready2read. Charlotte Link is going to be very big in North America.

enjoyed, but sad. Definitely want to read more of this writer. Interesting that the storey took place in Yorkshire, written by a German writer and translated into English.

"The Other Child" is a psychological suspense novel written by an author named Charlotte Link who is hugely popular in her native Germany but little known here in North America. I think that will change. I have read other novels in the European/Scandinavian genre but I have a confession--I would usually get terribly bogged down by proper names; those impossible combinations of vowels and consonants(and little dots) that represent people, places or even street names would somehow trip up my poor brain and put a damper on my reading experience. Well my brain is happy with this book. Not only does it take place in England but people have names like Dave and Chad and Leslie. If I had not known this was translated from German I would not have known-----does that make any sense? I enjoyed this book - a double murder mystery with threads going back to WWll.

The movement between past and present provides some excitement, but also sometimes slows the story down. The outcome is a complete surprise; maybe the author should have given the reader a few more hints.
