Kent A. Kiehl, who created the Mind Mobil MRI System to study psychopaths in prison populations, has collected the world's largest repository of forensic neuroscience, with scans of more than five hundred psychopaths and three thousand criminal offenders at eight facilities in several states. Kiehl's research has shown that the brains of psychopaths are structurally different from normal brains, offering new clues to how to predict and treat the disease"-- Provided by publisher.

An excellent writer who never looses your attention, but from the little I know of academic careers (not much, I'll be the first to admit, I only was once married to one), this guy had a research and career trajectory steeper than Superman Leaping Tall Buildings at a Single Bound. I'll give him full credit for outstandingly hard work to get his research started, but gosh. Where did he find the time and energy to eat and sleep? He also seems to have had endless important contacts. Talk about Networking! And mountains of funding! Maybe one of his secrets to success was 'Pick a Hot Topic' and plunge into it like no one has had the nerve to do before.
"Been a Heavy Life" by Lois Presser's work has no glamour, concentrates on the much more pressing social problem of a whole class of people's lives ruined by a jail-happy system, with nobody making noticeable efforts to help. It takes real guts to do what she does.

This book kept my interest and is a good follow up to the author's mentor Robert Hare's book Without Conscience.

For whatever reason, Psychopaths are all the rage right now in publishing. Being a single woman in NYC, it's good to brush up on one's knowledge of these creatures. However, I may have saturated my brain with social science books on sociopaths and psychopaths, so there was nothing really new in this book for me. He is an accessible writer so it is easy reading for the layperson, but it had trouble fully holding my interest. Again, this may be because i have read a lot about this topic (and done a lot of field work while dating in NYC, haha), but it is definitely better than that new book by a professor who claims to have had a brain scan that revealed him to be a psychopath. Boy, that was an exploitive stinker of a book.
