"Cody Hatcher is the kind of teenager you don't want your kids hanging with. That's the book on him and it's why the citizens of Mineral Springs have no problem at all believing that he's guilty of three rapes. His mother, Cheryl, an old lover of Nameless's, is also being harassed by vindictive townspeople. It's against such odds that he must work to prove Cody innocent. There are few to help him and plenty to get in his way. It's a classic situation for an iconic private investigator" -- from publisher's web site.

I always liked the Nameless series. I even remember one that was co-written with Colin Willcox. But this book was very boring. It didn't hold my interest. It wasn't exciting and no one in it was likeable. The detective work was dry and dreary and the conclusion was annoying. I surely hope this isn't a harbinger of what's to come down the line from this author.

It seems I have a contrary opinion about this latest bill Pronzini book. I loved it. I found it well paced, some action...pretty good stuff, and some cerebral action too. If you've been following Nameless for all these years, it is a do not miss. no hidden agendas, no super powers or ghost helpers, just solid, and plodding, detective work. Bill Pronzini has won every major crime and mystery award out there.....read this and see a master at work.

Predictable, boring and more of a short story than a novel. Pronzini is writing in his sleep -- this is not worth wasting time on, he could do so much better!

Long-running series, the Nameless Detective, has grown long in the tooth.
Again, it seems endlessly, Nameless learns that people are broken and hopeless. This time it's his former lover, At least this time, Pronzini doesn't try multiple storylines with different members of the detective agency owned by Nameless. It really is time for the author to retire the character. Tired and unexciting.
