A riveting portrayal of one of the most dramatic and turbulent times in English history. A story of love and lust, seduction and deception, betrayal and murder, it is uniquely told through the perspective of three different, yet equally relentless women - Elizabeth Woodville, Margaret Beaufort and Anne Neville. In their quest for power, they will scheme, manipulate and seduce their way onto the English throne.

Really liked this when I first saw it on Starz. Interesting history and good acting keep this moving along. ~ 420

"White Queen" would be worth seeing first, but the next film in the series "White Princess" zips along with more dramatic impact.

This series is a very interesting portrayal of the years of battle between the Lancasters and Yorks, i.e. the War of the Roses. Miss Gregory writes the novels upon which this series was created. Despite their being fiction, the books are based upon historical research. It is a very enjoyable way to understand a very complicated time in English history. Recommend. Kristi & Abby Tabby

Manages to turn an exciting period of history into a long, boring soap. Worse still it lingers on the female actors gratuitously naked bodies. Pardon me, but my history lessons don't really need to include Elizabeth Woodville taking a bath!

I feel bad for the quality actors who ended up in this POC. Michael Maloney and Janet McTeer deserve so much better than this. As for the rest of the cast, they can now put "soft-porn" on their CV. I read that the BBC version didn't have those scenes. They were added-on for the international market. As an American, albeit one who lived in the UK for many years, I am insulted that they felt people wouldn't have tried watching this without added porn. Probably was thrown in to attract male viewers who they felt wouldn't bother with a story based so much around women. It would have been better if the producers had used a better script, or based the script on something better than Phillipa Gregory's oeuvre. Her Other Boleyn Girl has made for both a terrible TV film and film made for Hollywood. Both made me cringe. This series is even worse than those two. Or at least - longer.

Somewhat like history in school (I'm from London, UK) It was much better than school, with a little bit of sex to help sell the show. Although much better than school history lessons. It's much the same, Church, Gentry, King's, and a whole lot of I want and want to be's. Sadly a path Canada seem's to have adopted in the last thirty years.

Captures your imagination right away. I became intensely for and against certain characters. You want those you favor to win all their battles, but that is not the way it worked out in actuality. So you feel that you are watching history being retold. Please don't let the sex scenes ruin this for you. We just fast forwarded through them. They are brief in any case. There are 3 DVD'S, try one and see if your not hooked on the film.

Me:"He's your uncle! You can't be in love with him! That's just nasty!"

Clearly(based on my outburst) I enjoyed watching this miniseries. If you like period shows like The Tudors, then you'll also like The White Queen.

I disliked Game of Thrones and its Hollywood gratuitous violence and sex so much that I almost dismissed The White Queen as well. Not that White Queen lacks either, but they are integral to the story. For those not up on the labyrinthine history of England including its War of the Roses, a genealogical tree of the various royal families would come in handy. The casting was excellent, with two unknowns, Rebecca Ferguson and Max Irons, son of Jeremy Irons and Sinead Cusack (looking very much like his mother) as the main characters. Belgium, probably an economical choice, was used in place of Great Britain, and its general drabness detracts from the sweep of the historical action. This series is a cleaned up version of how things actually were, with the reality of a lack of sewers, soap, and mod cons not in evidence. Whenever I see a costume period drama, I cringe at the long, trailing skirts which would have been dragged through manure of various sources, garbage, discarded, offal, etc. In reality, women surely had sense enough to take up their hems, but maybe not. I remember reading an historical novel set during the War of the Roses when I was in high school and loving it, so this series really came alive for me in way that the fanciful G of T did not. Fun to watch, well acted. I was sorry to learn that a second season has been cancelled.

I had to stay home all day fighting off a 'bug',.. and so I got to watch the whole 580 minutes back-to-back.

What a treat !!
(... and I even beat the bug !)

P.S. I read a short summation in a history book, about The War of the Roses, just before watching this series.

I think that doing this helped my understanding and enjoyment immensely.
(But its certainly not necessary.)
